This paper reports on the results of an action research project (2010-2013) in which ten Belgian organisations who implement development education programmes explored different planning, monitoring, and evaluation (PME) approaches with the aim of learning more effectively about their results. PME approaches piloted included outcome mapping, most significant change, scoring tools and survey instruments.

The paper will provide you with the following:
- A review of the literature related to PME of development education programs.
- Tools to help you clarify an actor focused theory of change (as a sound basis for developing a monitoring system).
- Various strategies and tools for data collection and data analysis
- Various strategies that may help you learn from the monitoring data.
- Lessons learned by different organisations experimenting with various PME methods in their development education programmes
