Chapter 4 in the Outcome Mapping (OM) manual describes outcome and performance monitoring and leads users / facilitators through several exercises coinciding with steps 8 through 11 of the OM framework. The following guiding notes draw from the ideas discussed in “Considerations for learning-oriented M and E with Outcome Mapping”, into three practical exercises that could be used as a complement to the OM manual. These notes, as well as the brief, are based on the premise that learning-oriented monitoring and evaluation should start with identifying the purpose for assessment based on users and uses, as well as the existing spaces for sharing, debate and decision-making that are key for learning, then deciding which data to collect.
